Introduction: We are not number 1
I believe that Americans need a new way of thinking about health. See how far our current views on this topic have
taken us – we are the last among the 17 most industrialized nations in the world in all key health indicators. It’s hard
to believe, but the truth is: we are the last in the expected life; we have the highest rates of obesity, infant mortality,
low birth weight, heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, homicide rates, teenage pregnancy, and se xually transmitted diseases.

The lead author of the Institute of Medicine, an NIH-sponsored study that found that this situation observed that
“Americans get sicker, die sooner, and suffer more injuries than people in all other high-income countries.” (This is a
quote from the report.) Then he added this coup: “We were amazed by the tendency of the findings, all on the
negative side – the scope of the shortage covers all ages, from babies to the elderly, both se xes, all classes of society.
If we do not take measures, life expectancy will continue to shorten and children will face a higher rate of disease than in other nations. ”

Two ways of thinking about health
I believe that Americans are too passive when it comes to their health. Good health can be achieved and maintained
only by conscious deeds. These works require planning and students. Examples include regular and vigorous
exercise, eating in a way that feeds the body without causing problems, and otherwise behaving in a positive, active way.

Choosing a lifestyle clearly affects the level of health you will enjoy. Your health largely depends on whether you
invest in your well-being or not. If you invest little or nothing, your health will depend on chance, genetics, the aging
process, and the timeliness of the quality of medical care you receive.
On the other hand, if you invest, seek, protect and defend an advanced state of well-being, the nature of your health
the status will be dramatically different – and better.

Therefore, we must distinguish between these two types of health situations – one passive, one active.
The report of the Institute of Health, which puts America in the last place, reflects the part of America that is passive.
If a fairly small portion of the American population engaged in active health were singled out, if their health data
were collected and compared, I am sure we would be in the first place.
For these and related reasons, I suggest that we look at health in two different ways – by distinguishing between static health – that most view and approach their health and earned health. You get the latter when you invest wisely in your well-being.

Health as currently observed
WHO’s the definition of health is unrealistic (no one, not even the most dedicated, enjoys “complete physical, mental
and social well-being”, at least not every day). Most think of health in far less sublime ways. Most think they are fine
if they are not sick. This is pathetic. This means that no emergency medical care is needed. Thinking in this way is a
self-fulfilling prophecy. That means healthy isn’t the best thing you can hope for. This is a static definition of health
and must be reformed and at least accompanied by a different, comparative perspective for those Americans who are
willing to do their part. That would deserve health.
I think we need ideas about health that remind people of a key fact, namely, that a passive situation is not as
effective, desirable, protective, or rewarding as a dynamically acquired health condition. We should all be aware that
static health, a default setting that you only get for existence and do nothing special to improve health, can and must
be enhanced and enhanced.

Using terms like earned health can remind people that health can be much more than non-disease.
The term earned
health can signal the availability of a richer level of well-being. It can remind everyone that health is at best more than a static state.
Earned health represents a higher health standard. Earned health is more ambitious and consistent with the REA
wellness way of thinking and way of life than the current health norm as a disease.
Static / earned health continuum
This continuum is another way to express Dr. John Travis’ original, simple model of health that draws a line of
health along the continuum, with “premature death” at the far left of its continuum) and the ever-changing dynamics
of “high-level health” at the other, extreme right side. “0” in the middle represents a neutral point, which could be a simple disease.
