Christmas Dos and Don’ts: 12 Days of Christmas

Christmas is a time to be merry and exchange gifts with loved ones. But as with any holiday, there are also rules that need to be followed by everyone from the hostess to the guest. This list of Christmas Dos and Don’ts will help you have a nice evening this year.

Don’t skip ahead in your gift opening if your party is going really quickly.      If you need more time, don’t worry! Just take a moment to breathe and ask for an extra ten minutes or so before moving on to next person’s gift opening! Don’t leave behind your wrapping paper at the last present, too.     If everyone is opening gifts at the same time, it would be rude to skip ahead! Someone else may still be opening their gift right then if you don’t wait your turn. Don’t let your dog or pet eat any of your Christmas candy.

Don’t leave any food out unless it’s wrapped up to keep pets away. Your pet might eat it if it’s left out, and bad things could happen if they eat chocolate or candy. Don’t breathe on anyone at your party or strike up conversation with them during gift opening time, either! No one likes an awkward first conversation at parties! Just enjoy the gift giving and stay quiet. Don’t forget to thank everyone for their gifts.

Don’t forget to thank everyone for their gifts, especially if you like or really need it! Also don’t forget that if you wish to give a gift in return, do so! You might have a small present for them or a thank you card. Don’t forget your hostess when giving a gift.    One of the worst things to do at a party is not give your hostess anything because she invited you over and cooked food for you. It’s always rude to not even give her a simple little something or something homemade from yourself.

Don’t leave without saying goodbye! And don’t be offended if your guests cannot hang around any longer. If they must leave, it’s okay not to be there for sixty minutes so they can get their gift opening time back.   And once again, don’t forget to say goodbye! Leaving without saying goodbye can show that you do not care at all about their time or your hostess, and this is definitely not the case with any party hostess! Don’t be rude to other guests’ hosts.

If other guests ignore your hostess’ invitation because she was too busy with you or them opening gifts, that’s okay! Just tell them that she can’t join them because she has other people still waiting. Don’t be afraid to tell people that they are too busy for you.   If others are taking forever opening their gifts, don’t worry! Tell them that they are too busy and it’s okay, don’t let it bother you. Don’t forget the birthday boy or girl! And if you really want to get in touch with them, it can be done without upsetting anyone or asking for back-up gifts because that might make them uncomfortable.

And remember, merry Christmas!

The Basics of the Presentation Part 2 – What are you giving them?  It’s time to find out what you are giving. You have three choices for Christmas presents. Is this person  your child? Do you want to give them a  toy  or gift card? Do you want to give them  some type of material that can be used in future projects or classes?  Or, do you want to give them an actual gift that they can use now or later? The next step is deciding on what kind of things they will need. On the others part, it depends on their specialization, skill level or hobby. Most of the time, you’ll be able to figure out what they would need or want.  Once you have a good idea in mind, I suggest that you do a little research on what they would need or want.

For example, if they’re a lot younger than you and they just picked up their hobby recently, they probably don’t have enough materials to continue their hobby or start something else.  In this case, you should find out if there is anything else that they could use when starting a new hobby.  If they are someone who is constantly doing something, you could give them a gift card to a special store.

This can be anything from art supplies to clothes for their hobby. If you’re not sure what hobby they are into, you should find out before you buy them something.  You wouldn’t want to get something for someone who isn’t interested in that hobby anymore. The third option is giving them an actual gift that can be used now or later. This can be anything from a new coat (for the winter) to new clothes (like jeans) to books (like those on drawing or an art field). There are many ways to go about giving them a gift that they can use later.  Don’t let the fact that it will be used by someone else keep you from buying them something they need or want.

If you’re buying a gift for someone, one of the most important things to remember is the name and address of the person. If you’re giving something to someone who doesn’t speak English, you should always put their address and/or phone number with your name  on the gift. A good way to do this is with your date  of purchase  printed on a card stock and put with your present.
